cadeaux-kadó-present

Salmiak (ammonium chloride) is a rock salt. It is industrially produced for the food industry, a white sour-salty tasting fine granulate. A maximum of 7.99 percent salt is permitted in the recipe, this must be labelled as "Extra strong adult liquorice - not children's liquorice".kadó means gift and is derived from the French word cadeaux. We wanted our shop to be a gift, offering just one product: LAKRITZ. We hoped that LiquoriceLiquorice is a natural plant product of the liquorice root. Its black colour comes from the vegetable carbon dissolved in the cooking process. Pure liquorice tastes sweet-tart, bitter. The consistency is hard as candy. in all its different varieties from Liquorice-loving countries across Europe would delight not only Liquorice monsters, but also newcomers.
The name for a future Liquorice shop needs to be carefully considered. It should not evoke any false associations, it should suit the product, sound nice, be easy to pronounce, not already be taken and be unique.

kadó is based in Berlin. In Berlin, ‘ow’ endings are common. Rudow and Pankow are names of Berlin districts, and the pronunciation is simply ‘o’, as in cadeaux. We designed the spelling graphically – kadó.
Founded in 1997 as the first Liquorice shop in Germany, we were forced out by the property boom in 2021 and transformed ourselves into kadó Lakritzfachhandel. Since then, we have continued to work every day to ensure that ‘kadó’ stands for good Liquorice from Europe.
